I love this time to put away those to-do lists too and just enjoy life. This is always when I read more than any other time of year, and December is my month when my Switch typically comes out! It's so restful. Also, I'm so sorry about those negative reviews. I've been there, and I'm sending so much love. It's so appreciated that you include families of all kinds in your beautiful work!
We call Christmas "Joulu" in Finland, but I wasn't aware that it used to be celebrated for 12 days, I looove the idea!
Thank you for the questions, too, they are great add for my yearly reflection.
And I just finished reading Wintering by Katherine May, it was truly inspiring. I have been wintering all this year (actually more like two years) and now I have a name for it. I also feel like my personal spring might be around the corner, but we'll see.
Doesn't 12 days feel right? Enough time to really get into a mode.
This is really lovely - thank you for sharing. I love the idea that the process of Wintering could last far longer than just a season, and as you said, will take as long as it takes. Sending warm and soft wishes to you in Finland.
We opened A Cozy Winter Day as an Advent gift, with chicken (with lots of carrots) stew and hot cider that day for bookish feasting. We all agreed that its pages captured a perfect way to spend a Minnesota winter day. Enjoy putting your work to rest for a bit! My copy of Wintering arrives tomorrow and I am looking forward to making acquaintance with Katherine May! I've heard lovely things about her work and am making my way through Substack goodness. Thank you for the thoughts on Jule!
Awww…this warms my heart so much!!! You paint a cozy picture for me here. I’m so excited for you to read Wintering, it feels really timely and needed right now. Thank you for your kind words about the book, Candace! Happy Advent wishes to you.
Thank you, Melissa-Jane - I should add for clarity that I’m not sad for the sake of my book (the anti-gay comments even said they like the book), I’m sad for my beautiful Queer friends!
Yes, I absolutely know what you mean and I feel the same way. It's awful that Queer people are still dealing with this kind of thing. I feel for my family and friends having to go through this on the regular.
I tried purchasing the Kindle version of A Cozy Winter Day, but it's coming up as "incompatible with this device" when I try to download. After digging around, I see that the Kindle for Mac versions aren't listed. Any chance of that becoming available soon?
I'm sorry about this, Melissa - I don't have any direct insight, but it seems like a mistake to me. I'll forward your message to the publisher (they might be shut down for the holidays), and will hope to get a response about it. Thanks for the heads up!
Thanks, Eliza! I'm hoping it's just an oversight or something. I see there are mac versions of your other books, so fingers crossed! Take care, and have a solstice!
I hope so too! I got a response from the publisher that they're looking into it. I think most people getting the Kindle version will have an iPad, so I hope it becomes available. Will be sure to let you know if I hear anything.

I have just bought a copy for my granddaughter Eliza. It's a really beautifully illustrated book that carries a lovely message.
How wonderful to hear!! I hope she likes it! (I got a note from Wayne that this comment is from you, Siobhan 💛 Waving to you across the sea! 👋)
I'm so sorry people are being awful in the comments for your book!

Awesome!! Yes to the Switch, too! All the relaxation and enjoyment is good.
And thanks for the sympathy about the haters - I wish you didn't know this all too well. Love and good cheer to you!
