How’s your energy feeling at the start of this year?
I’ve been feeling a hibernatory pull that I regularly feel in the winter months…my introversion rears its head after holiday socializing and travel, and this year was one of working through the holidays, so fatigue is also at a peak. This quieting energy is directly opposed to what the online world is blasting right now; New Year, New Blablabla! What I’m really feeling is the need to pull my feet out of the streams of online chatter, news feeds, and scrolling — and do some deeper reading, sitting, and maybe even have some un-productive sketching time. (Maybe.)
In great timing, I started reading the book ‘How To Do Nothing’ by artist and critic Jenny Odell, and it’s helping me understand and define this space I’m in. It speaks to the energy of slowing down in order to choose what to give the precious resource of our attention to. It’s the perfect off-line read this month to sit with and absorb, letting my feet dangle over the streams of newsfeeds, ‘grams, X’s, shares and ‘stacks going by.
Whether you’re feeling rested and ready to move into new things, or tired and needing a break from the hustle, can you make a little more space for wherever your energy is at right now?

I’m headed back to school for one more semester. We’re all moving too fast there. I’m hoping to slow it down a bit and help at least a few appreciate the things we can make in our studio, side by side. Sometimes we need permission to not. We’ll find good things when we do. Thank you 🌺
Thanks so much for the book recommendation. Just ordered it from my library! I'm with you on the slow ease into the New Year. :)
